Prince William wasn’t too happy that Princess Kate, whose full name is Catherine, was allegedly asked to change her name by some members of the royal family after they married.
According to a Monday, August 10, Fox News Digital report, royal biographer Christopher Andersen claimed in his book Kate!: The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen that she was asked to change “Catherine” to “Katherine.”
After the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 44, tied the knot in 2011, the late Queen Elizabeth II gave them the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
King Charles III (then Prince Charles) and his wife, Queen Camilla (then Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall), allegedly thought there would be too many Cs within the family, since they reportedly had a royal monogram of two interlocking Cs beneath a crown.
Charles, 77, and Camilla, 79, allegedly thought another C monogram “was overkill,” per Fox.

“Would Kate mind if she changed the spelling of her full name from ‘Catherine’ to ‘Katherine,'” Andersen wrote. “Offended by yet another command from on high essentially aimed at placating Camilla, a fuming William replied on his wife’s behalf. The request was nothing less than ‘insulting,’ he told his father, not only to Kate but to her entire family.”
“The monarchy really is a giant game of one-upmanship,” Andersen told Fox, explaining that “William has gone to war for Kate” throughout their relationship.
Andersen added that the alleged request for Kate to change “her formal given name for such a bizarre, almost comical reason was a bridge too far.”
Kate and William officially began dating in 2003, but they split in 2007 as they were feeling pressured to take their relationship to the next level.
