Prince Harry may be racing against the clock to secure his financial future before Prince William takes the throne, as a new report claims money and inheritance could be the reason behind his and wife Meghan Markle‘s sudden return to the U.K.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Page Six on Thursday, August 20, that people close to William, 44, believe there could be more motivating Harry’s move than his desire to reconnect with his family.
“There is a suspicion within Prince William’s orbit that Harry and Meghan understand the clock is ticking and want to re-establish their position, influence, and proximity to the monarchy while Charles is still King,” Schofield said.
William is next in line to the throne, and Schofield said that there’s a belief within his circle he’ll be “much less accommodating” when it comes to his younger brother.
“My sources believe Harry knows that,” Schofield explained. “They see this as an attempt to get a foot back in the door before William is the one deciding how firmly that door is closed.”
Money could also be a factor, according to Schofield, who told the outlet that some believe “money and inheritance are part of the calculation.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ camp is also reportedly concerned about what Harry, 41, and Meghan’s return could mean for the family after years of public accusations and revelations from the Sussexes.
“They have not forgotten the escalation in threats and online harassment directed at the Waleses after the [CBS] interview, and they fear another cycle of accusations, leaks or interviews could inflame that hostility again,” Schofield said.
She also said that one palace source had an especially harsh description of Harry and Meghan, 45.
“In the opinion of my palace source, Harry and Meghan are loose cannons,” Schofield shared, describing them as “unpredictable, indiscreet and, critically, not always reliable narrators of events.”
