Princess Kate has found herself caught in the middle as King Charles III continues his efforts to mend his fractured relationship with Prince Harry.

While the Princess of Wales, 44, supports Charles’ desire to reconnect with his younger son, a source exclusively tells National Examiner that she has mixed emotions over the possibility of Harry, 41, reuniting with the royal family in the U.K. amid reports that his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, will also join him.

“Kate is an incredibly forgiving person, but there has been so much hurt stirred up over the years by Meghan, it’s impossible for her to simply forget everything and move on overnight,” the source says.

According to the source, Kate wants to support Charles, 77, during what has been a difficult period for the monarch and believes Harry deserves the opportunity to repair his relationship with his father. However, Meghan’s potential involvement complicates matters.

“Kate does want to see Harry, and she wants to do whatever she can to help the King, but there’s no denying that having Meghan there makes things worlds more complicated for her,” the source says. “Not least because Prince William is so against the whole idea and Kate can’t simply ignore his feelings.”

Prince William, 44, has remained far less receptive to the idea of reconciling with Harry, and it’s left Kate in the difficult position of balancing her husband’s concerns with her own desire to support Charles.

“She understands why Charles is pushing for reconciliation, and she genuinely believes Harry should have this chance, but it’s still hard to stomach the idea of having to play nice with Meghan,” the source continues.

According to the source, Kate’s feelings have remained largely unchanged despite the years of family turmoil.

“If Harry was coming on his own it would be a very different story. Kate has always had a soft spot for him,” the source explains. “It’s Meghan’s involvement that changes the dynamic completely.”

The source also claims that Kate can’t help but worry that any reunion involving the Suits alum, 44, could reignite old tensions within the family.

“As much as Kate wants this peace, it’s impossible not to worry about what chaos Meghan will bring,” the source adds.

A separate source previously told National Examiner that Kate has been hoping William and Harry would make amends sooner rather than later.

“In her view, the longer they wait to deal with this, the worse it’s getting,” the source said on June 19. “She’s even said she fears that this could be the last chance because the longer this goes on, the more the hurts stack up, and at some point there’s just too much water under the bridge.”
