It looks like the Brits weren’t rolling out the red carpet for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s grand arrival back in the U.K.
After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — along with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5 — recently moved back to England from California, King Charles III was seen driving through Braemar, a village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, as reported by GB News.
A source exclusively tells Examiner the fact that the 77-year-old monarch “hot-footed it off to Scotland when they arrived” didn’t “exactly send a warm welcome.”
And it seems like it may have rubbed the former Suits star, 45, the wrong way.
“She wasn’t expecting a tea party or anything official, but it would’ve been nice to have some sort of signal from Charles that he was happy to have his son and grandchildren back in town,” the source says of Meghan.
It was widely reported that Meghan and Harry, 41, arrived back in England on Wednesday, August 26 — and, according to GB News, no taxpayer-funded protection greeted them when they landed at Birmingham Airport.

While “plenty of people have reached out to welcome them” and the Sussexes have “had all sorts of nice messages, especially from the Spencers,” Examiner‘s source says “Meghan’s still got this underlying feeling that they are not really welcomed by anyone within the King’s circle.”
“She says it seems pretty clear that they’re going to have to fight for every single bit of face time with His Majesty and anyone else in his orbit,” the source adds.
Meghan and Harry’s relationship with the royal family has seen its fair share of ups and downs since they stepped back from their senior duties in 2020 and moved to America, so it’s not entirely surprising.
“It’s what Meghan expected but it’s still a huge disappointment because Harry has been promising her it would be so much different,” the source says. “He seemed to think there would be a real excitement on his father’s part about having them back, but that just doesn’t seem to be the case.”
“There’s been no warm welcome or really any kind of kindness at all being shown,” the source adds. “On top of that, there’s still all this hatred coming her way. It’s a lot to adjust to — it’s no wonder she’s feeling pretty defeated already.”
