Prince Harry ‘Loved’ Idea of Moving Into Princess Diana’s Family Home, But Meghan Markle ‘Killed It’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s move back to the U.K. was a big decision, so finding a perfect place to settle down is key.
According to a Wednesday, September 2, report in journalist Rob Shuter‘s Naughty But Nice Substack, Princess Diana‘s younger brother, Charles Spencer, offered the Sussexes the possibility of living at the Spencer family’s Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire.
However, the former Suits star apparently wasn’t too keen on the idea.
“Meghan took one look at the reality and knew it wouldn’t work,” a Naughty But Nice source claimed. “Too remote, too far from London and, frankly, not nearly grand enough.”
According to the Substack, Harry’s uncle, 62, offered up The Falconry, a 17th-century lodge on his family’s historic grounds that was reportedly built in the early 1600s.
The Duke of Sussex’s late mother — who tragically died in a car crash at age 36 in August 1997 — lived on Althorp Estate at points in her childhood, and she was buried on a private island within the grounds.
For the Spare author, staying at Althorp Estate would be particularly meaningful despite it being nearly two hours by car to Buckingham Palace.
“Harry was genuinely moved because Althorp will always be sacred ground to him,” the source said.
However, an insider claimed, “Meghan isn’t moving back to Britain to hide away in an old lodge in Northamptonshire. She wants privacy, history and security — but she also expects serious luxury, substantial space and easy access to London. This wasn’t even close.”
According to a second source, “Harry’s heart loved the idea.” However, they added, “Meghan’s head killed it.”
“He saw family and memories,” the second source explained. “She saw isolation and compromise.”
Harry and Meghan — along with their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5 — have already arrived back in England.
According to The Sun, the Cotswolds is a likely area for the family to settle down, and it is close to King Charles III and Queen Camilla‘s home at Highgrove House.
