Queen Elizabeth II Once ‘Hurled’ Shoes at Husband Prince Philip During Heated Exchange, Book Claims
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were married for 73 years before his death in 2021. However, it was not always smooth sailing, according to British Journalist Robert Jobson’s new book, The Windsor Legacy.
The royal couple reportedly got into one heated argument in the Yarra Ranges, Victoria, in 1954, which was caught on camera.
Jobson reported that Philip rushed out of a cottage, followed closely by the Queen who was “hurling a tennis racket and shoes,” according to Page Six.
A camera crew, who was nearby filming koalas, was spotted by Elizabeth, who then dragged her husband back inside and out of view. According to Jobson, a soundman on the set handed the tape over to the royal press secretary.
“Sorry for the little interlude,” Elizabeth reportedly said after returning from the cottage. “It happens in every marriage. Now, what would you like me to do?”
Philip retired from public life in August 2017, at age 96. He moved into a cottage on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk until the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the lockdown, he moved back to Windsor Castle with his wife.
The couple reportedly “settled into a routine, sharing afternoon tea most days, which delighted the queen,” Jobson wrote, adding, “[They] spent precious time together, giving her a ‘new lease on life.’”
Her Majesty died September 8, 2022 at age 96.
