Princess Kate had her brother James Middleton by her side when she embarked on the National Three Peaks Challenge.
The Princess of Wales, 44, took on the charity challenge on the weekend of June 27 and 28, climbing the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours. The trek allowed her to raise money for the hospital, The Royal Marsden, where she was treated for cancer.
A week after the challenge her brother posted new photos on Instagram alongside an emotional message which revealed they had made a secret pact to take on the Three Peaks whilst she was still in hospital with cancer.
“I’m so incredibly proud of my darling sister,” James, 39, wrote. “Two years ago, I told you we’d climb this mountain together. We talked about climbing mountains while you were in hospital, and about the incredible healing power that nature can have for both the body and the mind. So it was such an honour to join you for your Three Peaks Challenge for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity
He continued, “Seeing how far you’ve come is nothing short of inspiring. Your strength, resilience, and determination, all while being the most amazing mother, wife, daughter, and sister, inspire me and so many others every single day.”
According to a report from Marie Claire published on July 1, fellow hiker Phillip Tebajjwa shared a video on his Instagram Story which showed Kate coming down from the top of Mount Snowdon holding hands with her brother, who was with her every step of the way.
The Princess of Wales has said she wanted to “raise awareness for the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare”.
The Royal Marsden Hospital website describes holistic care as “supporting the whole person – integrating physical, emotional, spiritual and social wellbeing alongside clinical care”.
