Former Child Star Susan Olsen Resurfaces in Los Angeles Ahead of ‘The Brady Bunch’ 56th Anniversary

Susan Olsen, fondly remembered as Cindy Brady from The Brady Bunch, was recently spotted during a quiet moment in Los Angeles.

The former child star, 63, stepped out of her car to grab a few items from her mailbox on Tuesday, July 29. Olsen wore a printed black T-shirt, shorts and slides during her low-key errand run in the new photos obtained by the Examiner.

Now leading a life away from the spotlight, Olsen remains a treasured part of TV history, years after captivating audiences as the youngest Brady sibling in the classic sitcom series.

Olsen was cast in the role when she was around 7 years old and played the beloved character for the duration of the original Brady Bunch series, which spanned from 1969 to 1974.

More recently, she spoke candidly about her perception of Cindy during an April episode of The Real Brady Bros podcast hosted by her TV brothers Barry Williams and Christopher Knight, who played Greg Brady and Peter Brady on the series.

Williams, 70, sweetly called Olsen “the cutest person in the world” while reflecting on her childhood role, noting that he and Knight, 67, knew she “was a little bit uncomfortable” with the gig.

“You’re so much smarter than your character. You’re so much edgier than your character,” Williams said. “You’re the least like Cindy. Your personality is the least like their character than any of us.”

Olsen agreed, chiming in, “That’s just how my career was. And it was something I had to accept. And it was really emphasized when my son was old enough to start watching the things I was in.”

The actress said that her son, Michael, couldn’t help but notice a recurring theme in her career. “And my son said, ‘So you always play the stupid child.’ And I said, ‘Mike, you’re right. I did.’ And he goes, ‘Wow. Do you think you had anything to do with that?’ I’m like, ‘Well, I hope not!’”

Despite the parts of her Brady Bunch role that she didn’t relate to, Olsen said that she had a lot of fond memories from the show, including working with her late TV mom, Florence Henderson.

Henderson died in Nov. 2016 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after suffering heart failure. She was 82.

“She taught me something very, very practical and I heeded her advice all my life,” Olsen told People in a statement. “She was just the constant performer — really, really super professional, but great fun.”

“She was also a great mother in real life,” Olsen added. “As much as maybe it might have not always been pleasant for her kids to have to share her with the world, I think that they’re in complete agreement that she’s the best mom.”
