Ex-Prince Andrew Reportedly Visited by Senior Royal Official Amid Succession Speculation After His Arrest

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor recently had a private meeting with a politician in the royal fold.

On Monday, March 2, Richard Benyon, the Lord Chamberlain of the Royal Household, had a closed-door two-hour discussion with the former Prince, 66, according to People. The conversation reportedly took place at Wood Farm, Andrew’s temporary home on his family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

Benyon’s position serves as the liaison between the monarch and the House of Lords, and, per People, the meeting may signal that he met Andrew to discuss removing him from the line of succession to the British throne, which requires an Act of Parliament.

As of now, the former Duke of York — who got his royal titles and honors stripped by King Charles III in October — is eighth in line for the throne. Prince William is, of course, first in line, followed by his three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis; then comes Prince Harry and his kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The meeting comes just weeks after Andrew’s arrest on his 66th birthday.

As Examiner previously reported, Andrew was arrested at Wood Farm on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office related to his communication with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his role as a trade envoy.

Meanwhile, Andrew — who has not been formally charged yet and was released from police custody after 11 hours — has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

A source told Examiner last week that Andrew is “adamant that he’s a scapegoat in all of this,” and feels it’s “unfair he’s being left to take the fall alone,” despite his former friendship with Epstein.
