Bruce Willis’ Wife Emma Heming Opens Up About ‘Impossible Decision’ to Move Actor Out of Family Home

Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming opened up about the 70-year-old actor’s battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and the choice she made to move him out of their family home during the 2025 End Well conference in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 30.

“These are hard decisions. These are impossible — I’m getting choked up thinking about it,” she shared, per Us Weekly. “They’re impossible decisions. This is not how I envisioned our life. I had to make the best and safest decision for our family and I knew by being honest and open about it that it would be met with a lot of judgement.”

Knowing that she would receive backlash for living separately from Willis, who resides in a nearby home where he receives ‘round-the-clock care from a team of professionals, the author and activist, 47, revealed that she sought therapy before going public with the couple’s new accommodations in an ABC special in August.

“It was interesting to see how much judgement and criticism about what a terrible person I am and how could I do this,” said Heming. “But you know what I say is that if you are not on the front lines of this, in that person’s house day in, day out, 24/7, 365 days a year — then you don’t get a say and you don’t get a vote.”

Unlike some fans, the Willis family was more than understanding.

“Because they know, they’re in it and I’ve got his beautiful blended family,” Heming said of the action star’s ex-wife Demi Moore and their daughters Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31. “I also have Bruce’s mother who is in her 90s. I have Bruce’s brothers and sister and cousins and they have been so loving and supportive and nonjudgemental.”

In the end, it was “the best decision” for their family, Heming declared, one that not only allows her to thrive, but also the two young daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, she shares with Willis.

“People don’t realize all the needs that go unmet behind closed doors and now our children’s needs are met,” she said. “They are in a home where they can have playdates and sleepovers, these things that we don’t even think about. Their world is completely opened up and so has my husband’s.”
