In an interview with AARP published Wednesday, February 4, the actress, 53, discussed her journey with perimenopause in promotion of her upcoming 4-part docuseries BALANCE: A Perimenopause Journey, revealing, “I have never in my life felt as powerful as I do right now.”
“I think a lot of menopause content asks how we get [women] back to normal. What if thinking ‘normal’ was part of the problem?” she questioned. “I don’t want to be restored to who I was. I want to continue to explore this person that I am now.”

The former Charmed star — who shares kids Milo, 14, and Elizabeth, 11, with husband David Bugliari — said when she was 41, she had many perimenopausal symptoms but was told by doctors, “You just had a baby; go for a hike, take a yoga class.”
However, the Melrose Place alum explained she pushed to undergo hormone replacement therapy,” which she said made her feel ‘like a whole new person,” just one week later.
Regardless of the challenges menopause brings, Milano noted that this chapter of her life has allowed her to grow.

“I haven’t had a panic attack in years,” she told the outlet, adding, “not worrying what other people think anymore is a huge bonus.”
Additionally, Milano has written a screenplay, which she admitted, “I’m not sure that I would’ve had the confidence to do that had I not gone through menopause and come into my power.”
