Liza Minnelli won’t be walking down the aisle a fifth time, a source tells Examiner.
After her disastrous 16-month union with producer David Gest in the early aughts, “she’s put off by the concept of marriage,” explains the source. “Even now she still has nightmares about their relationship.”
The legendary actress, 79, details the shocking pitfalls of the past romance in her new memoir, Kids, Wait Till You Hear This, which hits shelves on March 10.
Calling him a “clown” who “wore more makeup” than she did, Minnelli alleges the late promoter “conned” his way into her life and then proceeded to raid her bank accounts and sell off her possessions for cash following their lavish 2002 wedding, according to an excerpt obtained by the Sunday Times.
“Stealing money was horrible, but you can always get money back. The real crime was that Gest also stole my confidence, freedom and independence. He controlled everything I ate and the people I saw and spoke to on the phone,” she claims. “I was his prisoner.”

As Examiner’s source notes, the Cabaret star “finally worked up the courage to walk away” in 2003, and a messy, years-long divorce battle ensued.
Gest would later pass away in 2016 at age 62.
“David seriously scarred Liza,” dishes the source. “She admits she felt betrayed, humiliated and wounded in the aftermath of their split — so it’s no surprise Liza has kept a low profile for the past 20 years.”
While the singer — who was also previously wed to Peter Allen, Jack Haley Jr. and Mark Gero — confirms she’ll “never marry again” in the Sunday Times’ excerpt of her memoir, Minnelli insists she’s “not out of the dating game” as her 80th birthday fast approaches.
“Ideally, I’d like to date an older elegant man who speaks beautifully and is filthy rich,” the Hollywood icon says. “Then I’d like to date a 40-year-old guy who is passionate about something. I don’t care what. Then I’d like to date an 18-year-old who I see twice a week and whose name I don’t know.”
