Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has been effectively exiled from the royal family, but he’s still pushing for privileges and perks from his brother King Charles III, a source tells Examiner.
“The fact he’s effectively been banished into seclusion and omitted from all social functions or big picture discussions is something that angers him greatly,” says the source. “He believes it’s wrong and foolish for the king to be wasting his expertise.”
The former Duke of York, 66, served as a trade envoy under the late Queen Elizabeth II and “feels passionately he can still play a role within The Firm, even as an unofficial advisor,” the source reveals. “He’s not shy in complaining that the family has gone to pieces in the wake of his mother’s death.”
“In [Andrew’s] mind, Charles is out of his depth right now,” admits the source. “And this deepening gulf between him and William — plus the farcical situation involving the Sussexes — is proof that a shift in approach is critical in order for everyone to move forward.”
With the help of his siblings Princess Anne and Prince Edward, “he feels passionately that he’s the perfect person to step up and help in some capacity,” the source says. “So, that’s what he’s pushing for right now.”
The disgraced royal would “appreciate plenty more day-to-day support too,” adds the source, including “more staff and better lodgings and expenses for a start.”

Though Andrew has consistently denied wrongdoing and maintained his innocence regarding his connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, he was arrested earlier this year after the Thames Valley Police launched an inquiry into whether he shared confidential information with the financier related to his role as a trade envoy. Andrew was released on the same day and has not been charged.
Following the arrest, Charles said via a statement issued from Buckingham Palace that authorities have the royal family’s “full and wholehearted support and co-operation” throughout an investigation.
