Prince William may have had a hand in Prince Andrew’s sudden decision to give up his “iron-clad” lease of the Royal Lodge.

The Palace tipped off the press that something was going to happen outside the disgraced royal’s longtime home on Thursday, October 23, veteran journalist Emily Maitlis, 55, revealed on her episode of The News Agents podcast on Monday, October 27.

“There was a question over whether there had been, earlier in the day, a meeting between Prince William and the princesses, Beatrice and Eugenie, saying, ‘You guys have got to get your dad to move out of Royal Lodge otherwise we will start re-examining the state of your own titles,” Maitlis revealed.

Andrew, 65, had relinquished his own titles in a statement on Friday, October 17, amid backlash over his connection with late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein as well as the release of a memoir by sex-trafficking victim Virginia Giuffre, who alleged that the prince had sex with her three times.

“I vigorously deny the accusations against me,” he said in his statement.

His ex-wife, Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson, who lives with him at the Royal Lodge, followed suit, dropping the Duchess of York title she had used in spite of their 1996 divorce.

Their daughters Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 35, “are at the moment allowed to be princesses, but there was a bit of pressure, we understand, being put on the princesses to say this is going to happen,” Maitlis, who grilled Andrew about his relationship with late convicted pedophile Jeffery in a disastrous interview on BBC 2’s Newsnight in 2019, which led to him stepping back from royal duties.

“Obviously you can see why Andrew as a father would want to keep their daughters happy and keep their titles in place come what may.”

The plan, Maitlis says they learned, was that King Charles III would then stop by the Royal Lodge on the way home from his trip to Rome, Italy, “to be seen in other words reading the riot act to his brother.”

But the Palace got “very nervous” by the media “circus” that showed up, and “cancelled the whole thing,” she added.

As the National Examiner reported on Monday, October 27, Andrew has agreed to leave the Royal Lodge, but has demanded that he be allowed to move to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s old home, Frogmore Cottage, and asked that his ex-wife, 66, get Adelaide Cottage when William and Princess Kate move out.
