Prince Andrew has been charged “one peppercorn (if demanded)” in rent per year for his mansion since 2003, according to a lease published by The Times on Tuesday, October 21.
The royal, 65, initially paid about $1.3 million for the lease and another $10 million in renovations for the Royal Lodge when he moved into the seven-bedroom property on the Windsor Castle estate following the 2002 death of the previous tenant, his grandmother the Queen Mother.
The lease also states that Andrew, who lives in the home with his ex-wife, Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson, be given a “compensatory sum” of about $250,000 a year until 2028, and the Crown Estate would have to repay him about $745,000 if he gives up the lease before it expires in 2078, according to The Times.
King Charles III, 76, cut off his disgraced younger brother’s $1.3 million yearly allowance in 2024, according to biographer Robert Hardman, via the BBC.

Andrew then relinquished his titles on Friday, October 17 amid continued backlash over his connection to late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. (Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.)
According to The Times, Andrew’s sole income is now his $27,000 pension from the Royal Navy.
Charles has been trying to evict Andrew despite the “iron-clad” lease the Daily Mailhas reported, and U.K. politicians are also calling for him to move out.
“I don’t think the taxpayer in any way should be footing the bill for him to live in luxury homes ever again,” Shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick told the BBC, while Liberal Democrat Cabinet Office spokeswoman Lisa Smart told the outlet that Andrew “should show some contrition by returning every penny of rent that he’s not paid while disgracing his office.”
