Bob Barker Once ‘Politely Declined’ a Wild ‘Pimp My Ride’-Style Game Show Comeback

A former game show executive recently revealed the over-the-top idea he once pitched to Bob Barker — and why the legendary host ultimately passed.

In an appearance on The Game Show Starring Bradley Clarke podcast from 2023 that recently resurfaced online, producer Stuart Krasnow recalled trying to convince Barker to make a surprise cameo on CBS’ 2006 special Gameshow Marathon.

Krasnow, who served as executive producer on the celebrity-filled competition series, said he dreamed up a flashy entrance inspired by MTV’s Pimp My Ride.

The idea? Barker would dramatically appear during a Price Is Right-style segment featuring the classic “Hole in One (or Two)” game.

“I wanted like a Rolls-Royce, like a Pimp My Ride, Snoop Dogg kind of entrance for him,” Krasnow explained on the podcast.

The producer envisioned Barker emerging from backstage, sinking a putt, waving to the crowd and making one of his signature wisecracks before disappearing again.

Despite the elaborate setup, Barker wasn’t hip to that game and, “very politely declined,” Krasnow shared.

Barker famously hosted The Price Is Right from 1972 until his retirement in 2007 and remains one of television’s most beloved game show personalities.

Krasnow admitted replacing Barker was nearly impossible. Hosts Ricki Lake and, eventually, Drew Carey would fill his famous shoes, but added Krasnow, “there was a lot of backlash for anybody taking over” from Barker.

Barker died in 2023 at the age of 99 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
