Prince William may believe that his brother Prince Harry’s behavior is to blame for wife Princess Kate and King Charles III’s health struggles.

According to royal biographer Andrew Lownie, it’s likely that the 43-year-old Prince of Wales feels Harry is at fault for Kate and Charles getting sick. The Princess of Wales, 43, was diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy in early 2024. It was announced in February of that year that Charles, 77, was battling an undisclosed form of cancer as well.

“There are arguments that some of these illnesses are being brought on by the problems of the so-called ‘spares,’” Lownie told NewsNation in an interview published Thursday, December 4.

“I do think there will be a real crisis if something happens to Kate and she’s incapacitated,” Lownie, who has written multiple books on the royal family, continued. “She is the linchpin on which the whole future of the monarchy depends.”

It’s no secret that the Duke of Sussex, 41, has been at odds with his brother for years. Their relationship continued to decline after Harry married Meghan Markle and stepped back as a senior royal to pursue a more common life in California.

As the National Examiner previously reported, the former Suits star, 44, and her husband may lose their titles when William takes the throne following the death of Charles. Seeing as how Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, had his titles and privileges revoked, anything is possible.

“I think now that we’ve seen the royal titles can be struck out in an afternoon, I think we’re going to see a lot of titles go if you’re not a working royal [or] you’re not the direct line of succession,” said 64-year-old Lownie.

“I mean the whole reputation of the monarchy has been sullied both by Harry and by Andrew, and that’s the inheritance that he’s going to have to deal with,” the royal expert continued.

While it seems possible Harry may get back in his father’s good graces following the Charles’ cancer diagnosis, Lownie thinks it’s unlikely the duke’s relationship with his brother will ever be what it once was.

“I think it’s gone too far,” said Lownie. “I think Charles is keen to have a rapprochement with Harry before he dies. And I think Harry’s keen on that too. But I think the relationship between William and Harry is just not exactly.”
