King Charles III’s olive branch to Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie does not seem to have gone over well with Prince William.

According to The Daily Mail, the 77-year-old monarch invited his nieces to the Royal Ascot in June after they were reportedly told they could not join the royal family at the annual horse racing event.

“William is fuming and saying Charles has made him look terrible by changing his mind on this,” a source tells Examiner. “It’s no secret it was William that pushed for them to be banned from the Royal Ascot in the first place.”

As Examiner previously reported, there have been whispers that William, 43, had turned on Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 36, amid all the scandal surrounding their parents, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson.

“In his view, it’s crucial to the future of the monarchy that they are seen to be taking a very hard stance on the Yorks and letting Beatrice and Eugenie continue to be associated with them publicly sends the wrong message,” says the source. “He’s beside himself that his father won’t see that and is accusing him of making them all look weak.”

It’s not the first time the king and his heir have clashed over the future of the crown.

“He’s already angry about the way Charles let things with Andrew drag on for so long, and he says he’s making the same mistake all over again with Beatrice and Eugenie,” reveals the source. “William feels like he is being undermined at every turn and says Charles is letting sentiment get in the way of doing what needs to be done.”

William isn’t trying to be liked, journalist Rob Shuter reported via his Naughty by Nice substack on Monday, April 6. What he’s trying to do is protect the monarchy.

“He understands his father wants peace and for everyone to get along, especially given everything he is dealing with health-wise,” notes the source. “But from William’s point of view, this is not the time to be soft.”
