King Charles III has a “soft spot” for Meghan Markle, a source tells Examiner.
“Despite everything that’s happened Charles has not turned his back on Meghan,” the source explains. “The more time goes by the more empathy he seems to feel for her.”
The monarch, 77, is “well aware of the damage” his daughter-in-law and Prince Harry have done to the royal family with their various tell-all interviews, but “he still believes she has a good heart,” the source says of the woman he once nicknamed “Tungsten.”
And after hearing about her estranged father Thomas Markle’s medical issues, Charles “was genuinely upset” for Meghan, whom he escorted down the aisle at her 2018 wedding when her own dad couldn’t make it, adds the source, noting that he even keeps a photo of the special moment on his desk.

And Charles, who had his first face-to-face meeting with Harry in nearly two years in September, is more than ready to welcome her back into the royal fold, adds the source. “He wants peace, not just with Harry but Meghan too, and he’s quietly applying pressure from the top to make that happen.”
Those closest to him don’t agree. “This is not going down well with William or Camilla, they’re flabbergasted and saying he’s being way too naïve,” the source says of the queen, 78, and future king, 43. “They feel strongly that it’s asking for trouble to open the door to her.”

But the king’s other daughter-in-law is proving to be a surprising ally. Princess Kate “respects how important this is to him,” says the source, but “so far it’s not having much effect on William and Camilla, which is leading to some serious tensions.”
“Charles understands there are big feelings about this all around,” continues the source, “but he hopes that, in time, everyone can find it in themselves to lower the temperature.”
