The daughter of music legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette revealed a conversation she had with her mom near the end of her life shed some light on her parents’ long-lasting love for each other.
Georgette, 55, appeared on the Thursday, January 1 episode of the Drifting Cowboy podcast, where she opened up about losing her mom and the surprisingly deep conversation she had with her two weeks before she died at age 55 in 1998.

The “Stand By Your Man” singer implied that, despite marrying again after their divorce, George was the love of her life, Georgette explained.
“That was one of the things she offered up, she was just saying that she loved my dad, she always would love my dad, and she hated it wasn’t at a time that they could have made it work,” Georgette explained, via People.
Tammy married songwriter and producer George Richey in 1978, three years after her six-year marriage to George ended. On the podcast, Georgette got into the circumstances of their split and how it had less to do with Tammy falling out of love with George and more to do with his substance abuse struggles. She believes Tammy was hoping that if he lost her, George would stop using.
“And then she thought, ‘Well, maybe if I actually go through with it,’ and that didn’t work. Anybody who has ever known or been with someone with an addiction problem knows that it doesn’t have anything to do with who loves them or who is there,” she said.
The “He Stopped Loving Her Today” singer went on to marry Nancy Sepulvado in 1983 and stayed with her for 30 years until his death in 2013.
