Russell Crowe has been enjoying his downtime from Hollywood over the past few years, but according to an insider, he’s been reconnecting with old colleagues who have been encouraging him to dive back into the film world and reignite his once-bustling career.
“Even a few years ago this would be unthinkable,” a source exclusively tells the Examiner. “He really couldn’t stand L.A., but he’s mellowed a lot.”
While Crowe, 61, primarily lives in Australia at the moment, one person that could coax him back to the United States is his American fiancée, Britney Theriot, 33, who is eager to “spend more time back home.”
“She used to be an actress herself and loves L.A., so that’s had an impact on what Russell wants, since he loves to please her,” adds the insider.
The Robin Hood actor is also “being pitched a lot of exciting projects by really top notch people that he genuinely likes and wants to work with,” making a potential comeback a real possibility.

One of these big names is pal Ryan Gosling, but according to the insider, there’s a “large contingent of people that see Russell as one of the greatest action stars of his generation.”
Combined with the fact that blockbuster action flicks are primarily produced in the U.S., the insider says having a “base” there would be “beneficial” for Crowe.
“That’s why he’s looking very seriously at a return to L.A., even if it’s outside out in the suburbs away from Hollywood,” the insider concludes.
This comes one year after a source spilled that Gosling, 44, was trying to loop his old pal into a new project.

“Ryan’s worked with pretty much everybody in the last 20 years, but when he’s talking about the people he actually respects and admires, Russell is at the top of that list,” a longtime colleague told Closer in 2024. “He loves the guy!”
While Crowe made a name for himself starring in major hits such as A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Manand Gladiator in the early to mid 2000s, sources said that the Fall Guy actor didn’t like seeing Crowe in a “weird space” and making odd choices in projects.
Over the past several years, Crowe has found himself in a number of films that scored low to mediocre ratings with audiences and critics, including The Exorcism, Prize Fighter: The Life of Jem Belcher and The Mummy.
“Ryan just wants to see his mentor and friend back on more solid footing,” the source shared at the time.
