Actress and comedian Tina Fey grew up in Upper Darby, Pa., as “a high-functioning nerd: editor of the school paper, in choir, but not cool.”
Luckily for her and nerds everywhere, Tina is among those who have made nerdy the new cool!
Here are Tina’s 10 favorite roles and what the 55-year-old writer and performer says they mean to her.

Saturday Night Live (2000)
An “SNL” writer since 1997, Tina’s leap to the show’s “Weekend Update” with pal Jimmy Fallon was difficult.
“You never have that fear and disappointment that sketch players have. And it’s the only segment where you tell America your name. So, it’s career changing.”
Mean Girls (2004)
“Some of ‘Mean Girls’ was about this period in my life when I felt like I was an outsider. You need to be fearless, not be afraid to be yourself. In my teenage years, I was obsessing about people that I was jealous of. Then it was like, ‘I don’t want to feel like I ate poison anymore.’”

30 Rock (2006)
“I learned that every woman is responsible for being a feminist example. At. Every. Moment. Or not. I still don’t know, but I have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of women who identified with Liz. And that’s been great.”
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015)
She’s not a fan of streaming services like Netflix. “You hear from people, ‘Oh yeah, I watched all the episodes this weekend!’ It’s a little bit like being a chef and hearing, ‘I ate everything the restaurant had. I threw up everywhere, but it was good.’”

Baby Mama (2008)
Working well with co-star Amy Poehler: “We both grew up watching ‘The Carol Burnett Show.’ It was important for us to see it was her show. It made us dream of a life where we could get paid to make comedy with our friends, but also be their boss.”
A Haunting in Venice (2023)
“I am a big fan of Disneyland. The sets felt as if you’d gone into the most beautiful, expensive, perfect dark ride there…and been allowed to get out of the car!”

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016)
“I don’t have a master plan in terms of like, ‘Now we’re just gonna get more and more serious until I turn into a diamond.’ When I’m looking for projects, I think, what’s a movie I would want to go see if I were walking up to the theater?”
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
Steve Martin gave her great insight into performing: “He said, ‘You have to kill every time.’ It was chilling to me, but true. Comedy people can’t go on talk shows and blather like actors. We’re supposed to deliver. Steve always delivers.”

Megamind (2010)
“I don’t really have a nemesis like I do in ‘Megamind,’ but I have hundreds of small enemies that fuel me. Everyone I meet I assume is out to get me, and that fuels my fire on a daily basis.”
Muppets Most Wanted (2014)
“This is a bucket-list sort of item.” Which Muppet does she identify with? “Scooter. Because he has a lot of backstage responsibilities…and glasses.”
