Hard to believe now, but the beloved 1994 prison-break movie “The Shawshank Redemption” initially had failure written all over it!
Despite being nominated for seven Academy Awards and losing them all, audiences finally took notice and turned it into a hit. To prepare for his role as a prison lifer, Tim Robbins studied zoo animals in captivity, spent time in solitary confinement and wore shackles — while Morgan Freeman didn’t lift a finger, saying that playing a jailbird “doesn’t require any specific knowledge of incarceration.”
