Teri Hatcher Shares Her Secrets to Aging Gracefully and Finding Happiness

Teri Hatcher has a lot to be thankful for as she turns the big 6-0 — she’s happy and healthy and her career is thriving! More importantly, she is growing older with style, grace and no regrets.

“Aging for some is about looking younger than your actual age,” Teri explains. “But for me, it’s all about concentrating on the joy that every day can offer and all the good things I can make out of it. My dad has dementia, and both my parents are almost 90, and I am so lucky I can care for both of them. It reminds me we have an obligation to enjoy our lives.”

Here are Teri’s top tips for finding joy — all year round.

SWEET TRADITIONS

“Every year, I set up a Christmas town. I’m also a big LEGO fan, so I have a couple of LEGO-type gingerbread houses I put together, and I watch the movie ‘Elf’ while I’m decorating.”

FEED THE HEART

“I get so much pleasure out of cooking for others. I make an eggplant dish that I call the ‘I Must Love You a Lot Eggplant Casserole’ because it means I’ve spent eight to 10 hours in the kitchen! During COVID, I also taught myself how to make this fantastic orange candy dipped in chocolate. The French technique takes forever, but I found a way to do it quicker, and it’s just amazing!”

LET IT GO!

“A lot of our stress can be self-induced. For me, it’s often not giving myself enough time to get things done or expecting a different result. When I start getting anxious, I remind myself that if things aren’t perfect, I’m not going to let it bother me. I also put on good music — it’s an instant, uplifting mood-changer.”

FOCUS ON FEELING

“I just turned 60, and I’m discovering that I’m not as worried about looking young as I am feeling young. When I go to the gym or make sure I get good sleep and make healthy choices, it’s less about my dress size and more about my longevity. Another key to feeling young is having a good positive mental attitude. Stay curious, social and adventurous.”
