Princess Diana’s Brother Charles Spencer Is ‘Loving’ Attention From New Memoir
Interest keeps building around Charles Spencer‘s deeply personal new book on his sister, Princess Diana, and he may have bigger plans in mind than a standard publicity tour.
On Monday, September 21, Rob Shuter‘s Naughty But Nice Substack reported that the 9th Earl Spencer is enjoying the renewed spotlight surrounding Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.
The book is set for release Tuesday, September 22, but it’s already making headlines.
“Charles [Spencer] is absolutely loving this,” a source told the gossip columnist. “For most of his life, Diana was the Spencer everyone wanted. Now the microphones are pointed at him. He’s making headlines around the world, and he doesn’t want that attention to disappear.”
Spencer’s claims about the royal family have fueled the attention.
As Examiner reported on Friday, September 18, Spencer alleges that Buckingham Palace rejected some of Diana’s wishes for her 1997 funeral during discussions, including a family request involving Mozart’s Requiem.
Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on the book itself while pointing to the effect grief can have on memory, as reported by the BBC.
Spencer, 62, has maintained that money was not his reason for writing the memoir and has framed it as an effort to tell his sister’s story from his perspective, as per the outlet.
He has also remained close to Diana’s sons. Examiner previously reported that Prince Harry has leaned heavily on his uncle in recent years, with an unnamed source describing Spencer as “almost like a second father.”
The Naughty But Nice source claimed Spencer is already considering what could follow the book. “He wants more interviews and more opportunities,” the insider said.
“There are conversations about what comes next. Another book, television, a screen adaptation — Charles isn’t treating this like one publicity tour and goodbye.”
Another source added, “Charles has rediscovered the power of being a Spencer. He waited a lifetime for this kind of spotlight. He’s not rushing to turn it off.”
