Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $2.8M Reno of Frogmore Cottage Is Being Reversed: ‘Empty for 3 Years’

Frogmore Cottage is set for fresh overhaul, as the royal family moves to erase Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s time living there.

According to a Wednesday, May 27 report in The Sun, the property, which previously served as home base for Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, could see a major renovation.

“It’s been empty for three years,” a source told the outlet, adding that even Harry’s disgraced uncle, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, “thought it wasn’t good enough for him to move in. Maybe if they get rid of any trace of Harry and Meghan, then someone within the royal household will fancy it.”

The Sussexes launched extensive renovations that transformed two detached houses into a single family home after they were given the property as a wedding gift by Queen Elizabeth II in 2018.

The work, which included installation of a yoga studio, replacing ceiling beams and floor joists, as well as updating electric and gas fittings, took almost a year. But much of that may be undone, the outlet reported, with one option being to subdivide the property again.

Harry and Meghan’s refurbishment sparked headlines in the U.K. due to its reported $2.8 million cost, which the Sussexes later repaid following backlash and their departure from senior royal duties, The Sun reported.

Their relationship with the royal family deteriorated further after stepping down in 2020 and relocating to California, where they now live with children Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

The Sussexes have stayed at Frogmore since moving out, including during the late queen’s Platinum Jubilee and for her funeral in 2022.

In 2023, around the time the Duke of Sussex released his explosive memoir Spare, King Charles III requested the couple vacate Frogmore Cottage entirely.

As per a Page Six report, Buckingham Palace has not publicly commented on the latest claims regarding possible renovations or future plans for the residence.
