Phil Collins Plots Surprise Comeback, Says He’s ‘Not Dead Yet’ Despite Dire Health Struggles

Phil Collins is gearing up for a musical comeback — even as he battles a long list of frightening health issues that once left his family preparing for the worst. The reclusive Genesis legend, who turns 75 on January 30, opened up in a new BBC Eras interview with Zoe Ball about his near-fatal drinking, chronic pain and the grueling spinal and nerve damage that forced him to stop touring in 2022.

Per The Mirror, Collins admitted his alcoholism became so severe that doctors discussed his will in front of his children and revealed he recently celebrated two years sober after ditching daytime drinking that spiraled while he lived alone in Switzerland. On top of that, he’s endured multiple knee surgeries, diabetes and hearing loss — yet insists he’s far from finished.

“I’m not dead yet,” Collins declared, saying he now relies on a 24-hour nurse but is considering going back into the studio and even weighing a return to the stage. “Never say never.”

The father of five — Joely, 53, Simon, 49, Lily, 36, Nicholas, 24, and Matthew, 20 — says his kids’ successes inspire him to keep fighting. “I’m very proud of all of them,” he said, noting son Nic now drums for Genesis and Mike and the Mechanics in his place.
