NFL star turned lawyer Mel Owens is the new “Golden Bachelor.”

While the initial Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner was a widower, Mel, 66, is divorced and has two grown sons from his 25-year marriage — and his younger son is the one who signed him up for the show. He’s looking for “the simple joys of companionship — sharing life’s everyday moments, making plans for the future and growing stronger together as a couple. Someone full of life, because it’s go time.”

Born in Detroit, Mel played college football at the University of Michigan, then enjoyed a nine-year career as a linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams. After retiring in 1991, Mel turned to law. He moved to Orange County, Calif., and dedicated himself to helping others.

After several years as a devoted dad, Owens is ready to find love again on the popular TV show. Unfortunately, Gerry Turner and his choice, Theresa Nist, divorced after only three months. But Mel is eager to meet someone who shares his vision and finally find that perfect teammate he’s been waiting for in his golden years.
