Veteran musician Art Garfunkel didn’t have to look far and wide to find a new collaborator — the singer and his son Art Jr. have turned making beautiful music into the family business!

“The best part is how much it gives us a chance to be close,” says Art Sr., 83, who along with childhood friend Paul Simon had a string of ’60s hits like “Mrs. Robinson,” “The Sound of Silence” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” among others. “There are times where we have sung where our foreheads touch because we’re so close and we’re working one mic. It’s bliss to be that close to your own son.”

He also loves sharing the knowledge he has accumulated over his long music career with his son. “The greatest lesson from my dad is to understand that it’s one thing to be good and another thing, to be great,” says Art Jr., 34. “The secret is to give that extra 1 percent beyond everybody else.”

The two Arts recently released a new joint album appropriately titled “Father and Son.”

Making music with his son has been a meaningful experience for the older Art. “Sigmund Freud said that a full life means finding fulfillment in your work and your family,” Art Sr. explains. “To be satisfied in these two areas is to have a valid life. I have that.”
