As Jesus in a film series seen by 200 million fans worldwide, Jonathan Roumie moves heaven and earth to ensure everything is completely accurate — and that includes the fifth installment, “The Chosen: The Last Supper.”

“Whether it be through artwork or other depictions, people expect what the Last Supper should be,” explains Jonathan. “I want people to see that particular scene and come away with a deeper understanding of what that evening was and what it meant.”

In one scene, Jesus literally lashes out at sinners at a temple festival. To do it well, he worked with Anthony DeLongis, who also trained Harrison Ford for the Indiana Jones movies.

“I studied with the top whip master in probably the world,” says the 50-year-old actor. “To use a whip properly and to wield it as Jesus — it’s badass this season.”

And he’s already preparing for the sixth film in the series that will depict the crucifixion of Jesus. “I’m dropping weight as we speak because I have to look the part on the cross,” confides Jonathan.

The seventh film is planned to depict Jesus’ resurrection. It will be the final film in the series that began in 2017.

“In another two years, this will be finished,” Jonathan says. “I don’t know what’s going to happen when it ends, but I trust that it’s going to be something better than I could ever imagine because that’s just how God’s been working in my life.”
