Helen Mirren Makes Surprising Confession About Avoiding Doctors: ‘Totally Deny’

Helen Mirren would rather turn to artificial intelligence than visit the doctor.

The 81-year-old actress revealed she “totally” avoids doctors while speaking to Entertainment Weekly at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting her new thriller, A Talent for Murder.

Mirren was joined by costars Alden Ehrenreich and Olivia Cooke, who described themselves as hypochondriacs while discussing how they bonded on set.

Mirren, however, joked that she was the “opposite of hypochondria,” adding, “I just completely ignore everything.”

When Ehrenreich, 36, asked if that meant she avoided doctors, Mirren replied: “Totally deny. I avoid doctors. Oh no, totally. And it’s working.”

Ehrenreich joked that he would feel safer if he had a doctor living in his home.

“Well, you do. It’s called AI,” Mirren responded.

She added: “You know, AI is amazing. ‘It hurts, but it doesn’t hurt that much!’ Oh, it’s incredible.”

Mirren previously poked fun at AI while accepting the American Cinematheque Award in February 2024.

After Harrison Ford presented her with the lifetime achievement honor, Mirren began reading what appeared to be an acceptance speech before revealing it had been generated by artificial intelligence.

“And that was written by AI,” she told the audience before ripping up the speech and continuing with remarks of her own.
