Olympic diving legend Greg Louganis is opening up about life after a dramatic personal reset that saw him leave the United States and begin again overseas.

The four-time gold medalist, 65, recently returned to the U.S. for a brief holiday visit with family in Hawaii, including his father and siblings, before heading back to Panama, where he’s now spending most of his time.

“It’s been a great visit,” he shared in a Monday, December 29 Instagram Reel, adding that the trip reinforced his decision to make big changes. “I’m not getting a hold of attorneys and changing my citizenship or anything like that, but that’s a possibility.”

In August, Louganis surprised fans when he revealed he had sold his home and auctioned off three Olympic medals to afford the move. He later acknowledged financial strain, writing on Facebook, “I needed the money,” while reflecting candidly on past management missteps.

Inspired by friends displaced by devastating Los Angeles wildfires, he said the transition represents more than geography. Instead, for Louganis, it’s about rediscovering who he is beyond his athletic legacy.

“Now I get to discover who is Greg Louganis?” he wrote on Facebook,  “without the distraction and noise from outside.”
