Dustin Hoffman ‘Un-Cancelled’ After 2017 Misconduct Scandal ‘Almost Completely Brought Him Down’

Dustin Hoffman is going to keep acting in movies as long as anybody in Hollywood is willing to put him in a role, a source tells Examiner.

“There’s no other way to put it, but Dustin has managed to make himself un-cancelled after the scandal in 2017 that almost completely brought him down,” reveals the source. “Cut to today and the guy is still working like crazy … Making films is in his blood and he’s never seriously considered retirement.”

Several women came forward that year accusing the two-time Oscar-winning actor, 89, of inappropriate behavior, from sexual harassment and assault to exposing himself to a minor — allegations his attorney called “defamatory falsehoods” in a letter to Variety‘s owner.

“A big thing that has lifted him up over the last 10 years is that he is still a figure of almost religious significance to the generation of 30-something and 40-something male actors who grew up watching his famous hits,” says the source. “There are a lot of famous actors in their prime who would kill for the chance to play opposite Dustin, and Dustin knows it!”

Hoffman recently starred opposite White Lotus alum Leo Woodall in the crime thriller Tuner, which earned positive reviews after premiering at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival.

“Dustin’s gift has always been working with younger actors, going back to Rain Man with Tom Cruise,” notes the source. “It continues to be a big reason why he still gets work. A young star is going to go the extra mile when they’re in a scene with Dustin, that’s just a guarantee, and it makes Dustin a huge asset on any movie set.”
