Art Garfunkel Reveals He’s Considering Leaving America: ‘I Don’t Like America’s Position at All’

Art Garfunkel says he is considering leaving the United States as he voiced his frustration with the direction of the country.

The 84-year-old singer discussed his concerns about climate change, global hunger and President Donald Trump in an interview with The Guardian published September 4.

“I don’t like America’s position at all. I’m not aboard, and I’m thinking of leaving the country, frankly,” the Simon & Garfunkel singer said.

He also expressed concern about climate change, saying: “It’s real that the planet is getting warmer, that the water’s rising, that so many people are starving.”

Garfunkel went on to question President Trump’s actions involving Venezuela before saying he was hopeful for the country’s future.

“Trump won’t last forever. So we’ve got to hope,” he said.

Garfunkel is not the first celebrity to consider leaving the United States amid concerns about the country’s political climate.

Comedian Rosie O’Donnell moved to Ireland in January 2025, and she later told CNN that she had decided to leave the country if Trump, 80, won the 2024 election.

During a July 2025 appearance at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, England, Ellen DeGeneres confirmed that Trump’s election influenced her and wife Portia de Rossi decision to remain in the UK.

“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in,'” she told broadcaster Richard Bacon, according to a 2025 article from The Guardian. “And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.'”

Director James Cameron, meanwhile, permanently relocated to New Zealand after years of planning a move there. He has also been outspoken in his criticism of President Trump.
