Movie Star, bodybuilder, husband, father, businessman, humanitarian and philanthropist Dwayne Johnson, 52, starts every morning in the middle of the night — he gets up at 4 a.m. every day! That’s because The Rock is one of the hardest-working guys in Hollywood. “Success isn’t always about greatness,” he says. “It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.”

Wake-Up

The first thing Johnson does after waking up is hydrate himself, which he does by drinking a glass of water with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. This helps to flush out toxins and kick-start his metabolism. Next, he usually does a short meditation of 10 to 15 minutes to get his mind focused, plus breathing exercises that help cleanse his body with oxygen.

First Workout

Then it’s time for his first workout of the day, which is a cardio workout. He either runs outside or, if it’s raining, he gets on his elliptical machine at home while sipping coffee and catching up with the news. He may also head to the gym, where he follows up his morning session with weight training. These gym sessions usually last for two hours, and he focuses on a different muscle group each day.

Breakfast

After the workout, he sits down to breakfast at 7 a.m. His meal usually consists of protein-rich foods, such as eggs, steak and oatmeal. He also includes some carbohydrates and healthy fats in his breakfast to fuel his body for the day ahead.

Johnson spreads out his eating throughout the day — meals that equal a total of 3,000 calories — to help maintain his energy levels and avoid cravings for unhealthy snacks. He also drinks a gallon of water each day.

His meals are prepared the day before to save time and also to ensure he has the right balance of protein, carbs and fat.

First Lunch

Dwayne follows a strict diet plan, which includes eating six to seven meals a day. His meals consists of lean proteins such as chicken, fish and steak as well as complex carbohydrates and healthy fats. He avoids processed foods, sugar and alcohol to maintain his health and physique.

Most of his meals include chicken, eggs, broccoli, rice, halibut, baked potatoes, asparagus, onions, mushrooms and leafy vegetables. He also loves protein shakes.

Work, Work, Work

The Rock’s afternoon activities can be filled with any number of things. He’s either on a film set, going to meetings for his various businesses, reading scripts at his production studio — Seven Bucks Productions — or promoting any number of the charities he’s passionate about. If he’s working on location for a movie, he takes his portable gym — what he calls the “Iron Paradise” — so he doesn’t miss a chance to work out.

More Work

After he’s worked out and fed, Johnson usually focuses on work-related tasks such as attending meetings, reading scripts or filming. He also makes sure he takes breaks to stretch and walk around to prevent his muscles from becoming stiff and sore from sitting for too long.

Dinner & Family Time

In the evenings, Johnson likes to wind down and relax with his family — wife Lauren Hashian and daughters Jasmine, 9, and Tiana, 6. They also like reading books or watching movies together.

“I’m very low-key,” he says. “I don’t really blend in, so it’s difficult to go out in public. I like to do things that are kind of quiet, whether it’s a dinner at my house or at a restaurant, or a movie night at home.”

Before going to bed, Johnson likes to meditate again — getting his mind focused for the next day’s activities — and stretch to relieve any tension in his muscles. He also takes a hot shower or bath to help him relax and get a few hours of sleep — until the alarm goes off at 4 a.m. and it starts all over again!

Cheat Days

All that unrelenting discipline isn’t going to work seven days a week, so Johnson takes one day as a “cheat day.” And on that day, he allows himself to go nuts, eating burgers, fries, ice cream and pancakes, with meals that contain as many as 5,000 to 6,000 calories! He’s got a ton of followers on social media, where he shows off the incredible dishes he consumes on his cheat days. He laughs, “I would never win an award for NOT loving pizza!”
