10 Things You Didn’t Know About ‘Back to the Future’ Star and ‘Nobody 2’ Actor Christopher Lloyd

Christopher Lloyd plays the retired FBI agent father of Bob Odenkirk’s former government assassin in the upcoming dark comedy Nobody 2.

Here are 10 things you probably don’t know about the 86-year-old Back to the Future icon.

1. Christopher was born in Stamford, Conn., to Ruth Lapham Lloyd and attorney Samuel R. Lloyd Jr. He has two older brothers and three older sisters. His maternal grandfather, Lewis Henry Lapham, is one of the founders of the Texaco oil company; his roots can be traced to Mayflower passenger John Howland.

2. Christopher was one of the founders of Staples High School theater company, the Staples Players, in Westport, Connecticut. As Oberon in a 1975 Yale University production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, he costarred with a young Meryl Streep (as Helena).

3. Christopher became a fan favorite as ex-hippie cab driver “Reverend” Jim Ignatowski on the TV sitcom Taxi.

4. From Uncle Fester in The Addams Family to Taber in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest to eccentric Doc Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, he’s played some creepy, mysterious and quirky characters.

“Somehow people sensed that I have certain talents and cast me in these off-beat roles, which I have no regret about,”  Christopher once told Parade. “I’ve enjoyed playing every one of them.”

5. Christopher was surprised how Back to the Future became a classic, revealing to StarTrek.com, “It never occurred to me. It’s a wonderful thing to be a part of something that means so much to so many people and that just keeps thriving.”

6. He would love to do a fourth Back to the Future film, telling Entertainment Weekly that while director Robert Zemeckis and producer Steven Spielberg told the story in three episodes, “If somebody has a brilliant idea that would justify a fourth film, it might happen.”

7. His favorite Back to the Future film was Part III: “It had horseback riding, and all that work, all that training, was quite an experience,” he told Parade.

8. After his Montecito, California, home was destroyed by a 2008 fire, he bought a home in Montana.

9. Christopher is an avid cyclist and once toured Italy on a bicycle. He also likes hiking and flyfishing.

10. Christopher has been married to wife Lisa Loiacono, a 55-year-old former real estate agent, since 2016. He has never had any children of his own.
